I think it's interesting that so many people are complaining about the name (The Slashdot story's at over 600 comments and rising), while so few (especially on Slashdot) complained about the system's relative lack of power.
But really, it's just a name, and the system won't rock any less, or more, because of it. It's solely a marketing decision... and "Wii" will probably play a lot better to non-gamers than "Revolution," which kind of predisposes that you recognize the staleness of the current game industry instead of being mostly indifferent to it.

when i read that, i thought that someone had announced a cthullu game for the wii
and yeah. the name is going to take some getting used to, and the dual context press release made my head ache.

Revolution was a pretty dumb name, but Wii is just completely idiotic. So, pretty much just what I expect from Nintendo.
